Theory of Es: Don't make Drake the Golden Child.
This year has been huge for Drake. The release of his classic mixtape So Far Gone, traveling and performing all over the nation, having a hit playing on like every radio station, working with some of the biggest names in the industry, and just recently, getting signed! And most of all, gaining tons and tons of new fans. But with all these good things, I feel like people are thinking Drake is the best out there and not really judging him the same way they are judging other artists new to the game. Everyone is analyzing these other rappers' lyrical flow and their vibe and even the way they dress and stuff but everyone is just like,"Oh Drake, I Love Drake, He's the best" all googly eyed and stuff. It's like the dude has a shield of hype protecting him and making everyone love him.
And as soon as everybody started like this dude I said his hype will expire by the end of summer. And already is. I see people who loved him a couple months ago now really listening to his music and getting over his hype and are not 100% a Drizzy fan anymore. On Twitter, I saw someone call him a corny KanYe West. Ouch! See this always happens. An artist drops one dope song or mixtape and everyone gets all excited and then after a couple of months of the artist not doing anything major, we really pay attention to their work, criticizes it, and then forget about it. I don't think people are gonna forget about Drake but I know for sure that some people who thought Drizzy was the shit, don't think so anymore. That's what happens when you have fans of the hype and not of the music. Whenever I have something to say about Drake, it's in regards to his music. If I don't like a song, I don't like that song. Doesn't mean I think Drake is lame and a douche bag, just means I don't like the song. For others, if you drop a song and they don't like it, they no longer like you at all-don't lie, you people are like that!
Here's my main purpose in my theory. Drake is just like any other artist. It is really bothering me that people, especially more established artists or older artists are praising him so much to the point that they fail to notice other great talent in the game. Drake can and will make mistakes hence the Best I Ever Had video and yes, we can also blame KanYe for that tragedy of a video as well, but its Drake's video. Drake is not the future, he is part of the future. Along with Wale, Cudi, Big Sean and other new comers. And all these female artists like Mary J.Blige (who I adore) and Queen Latifah saying Drake's music is empowering women is a load of bullshit. Yes, Drake loves and appreciates women and expresses that in his music but it does not empower me what so ever.If you listen to all of his music and not just Best I Ever Had, you would not feel that empowered. Dude is witty and only smart people will get it. I will hypotheses that many of the girls listening to him hear one good thing in a song and think that the whole song is fab and makes them feel special. He said he is gonna hit it from the back til ya bra strap pops-what is empowering about that?
Now that the summer is coming to a close and so his Drake's hype, it's time for you to decide if you really like this dude and think he's dope. As for me, I've been on the "Drake is dope" train since 07, the rest of yall are late! Remember, don't make Drake the Golden Child of Hip Hop...just yet. He is yet to show us what he can really do. And as for me, I'm not a hater, I'm a lover but I'm also one of the realest people you will ever encounter. Tell it like I see it-take it or leave it.
That's my theory and I'm sticking to it!
*this post did not come out exactly the way I wanted it to, but hopefully you get my point. It took me like forever to finish this shit. I don't why! lol
